Frequently Asked Questions
These are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about GridRoom. If your question isn't
answered here you may also wish to visit the
GridRoom Support discussion group.
Is GridRoom only for football?
Absolutely not. You can use GridRoom any time you need to distribute high-quality video files to specific
groups of people. Any time you would otherwise be hand-burning DVDs you should consider using GridRoom
instead. This could include distributing game films for other sports, sharing videos of school performances
with parents, etc.
How much does GridRoom cost?
It costs nothing to download and use the GridRoom client. Sharing your videos with other users is also
free. You'll only be charged to download videos shared by other users. Per-video download costs
vary depending on the size of the video file, but it's normally about the cost of a recordable DVD (less
than $1).
How long will my videos remain available for download?
Uploaded videos remain available for at least 14 days before expiring. Each time a video is downloaded
the expiration date is pushed back 7 days. In other words, the more people you share with the longer
your videos will remain available. At some point in the future we may allow users to keep videos available
indefinitely for a small fee.
Can anyone download the videos I share with GridRoom?
No. When sharing videos you enter the email addresses of everyone who can see and download each video.
Only the users you've specifically authorized can see and download your videos.
Does GridRoom run on Macintosh computers?
At this time the GridRoom client runs only on Windows XP (service pack 2 or higher) and Windows Vista.
We are considering development of a browser-based download manager that would allow Mac users to download
the full video file for viewing with other Windows Media players.
Can I use GridRoom with a hard-drive based camera that creates separate files for each video clip?
Yes. However, because GridRoom does not currently support merging multiple video files we recommend
that you merge the clips into a single, uncompressed AVI file using a tool like Windows Movie Maker
before importing and sharing with GridRoom. Microsoft provides free versions of Movie Maker for both
Windows XP and Vista.
Can you view videos without downloading them?
Yes. You can watch a scaled-down version of each shared video by logging into your Web account. But
you must download the full-sized video using the GridRoom client. This is because high-quality video
creates very large files. The GridRoom client features a robust download process that resumes downloads
even after restarting GridRoom or your computer.
What if some of the people I want to share with can't run GridRooom or download videos?
You are free to copy shared videos to recordable DVDs or other media for offline sharing.
